The American Red Cross of the Cape, Islands and Southeast Massachusetts held its annual meeting on June 8th at Bristol Community College, recognizing community partners, dedicated volunteers and newly elected board members and officers.
The Red Cross recognized Richard S. Aguiar, Deputy Chief of Special Services, Fall River Fire Department with the Community Service Award for the work he’s done in promoting safety and fire prevention in the Fall River community and partnering with our local Disaster Action Teams when disasters of any size hits the Fall River community.
The Red Cross also recognized Charles and Carol Peterman with the Community Leadership Award for their philanthropic investment in the American Red Cross over the years.
The Red Cross also honored local volunteers who have donated their time to help Southeast Massachusetts communities. Of note, Ann Fournier of Berkley who has been with the Red Cross for 30 years in our Preparedness, Health and Safety Services division and Jean Marsilli of who has been with the Red Cross for 20 years, including her service as a “Donut Dolly” for service members in Vietnam in 1970. She became active again more recently but has been connected to the Red Cross for 47 years and has deployed to Hurricane Sandy and Hurricane Matthew relief efforts in the past 5 years.

Paul Bernier, Chief Risk Officer of the Cape Cod Five Cents Savings Bank and Ronald DeWillis, who has worked for the Red Cross and the YMCA of Greater Providence and is also a member of the Mashpee Wampanoag are joining the Board of Directors. Andrew Foss and Robert Eisenstein are both retiring from the Board of Directors.
The Cape, Islands and Southeast Massachusetts Chapter serves a population of more than 1, 273,000 people in the 15 towns of Barnstable County and the islands of Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket and Bristol, Plymouth, and Dukes Counties. We are part of the Massachusetts Region of the Red Cross.
