Barnstable Municipal Airport Receives Additional FAA Funding To Reconstruct Runway 15-33 And Preserve 300,000 Square Foot Aircraft Parking Ramp
HYANNIS, MA (September 15, 2016) – Today, Barnstable Municipal Airport announces it will receive $312,688 in additional Federal Aviation Administration funds of which $124,200 is in the form of a new grant offer from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The money will be used to seal and paint 300,000 square feet on the main terminal aircraft parking ramp. It is anticipated that this will help preserve the pavement for an additional five years.
The Barnstable Municipal Airport was the recipient of a total $312,688 dollars that were originally earmarked by the FAA in 2013 for Provincetown Municipal Airport. The Provincetown Airport was not able to ultimately utilize the money for their airport reconstruction projects because of an incredibly complex permitting process. Barnstable Airport Manager Bud Breault said approximately $188,000 dollars of this money will be placed in conjunction with a previous FAA grant given to Barnstable Municipal Airport for the reconstruction of the 15-33 runway.
“Provincetown was pleased to have been able to work with Barnstable Town Manager, Mark Ells and Barnstable Municipal Airport Manager Bud Breault as well as the FAA to make sure that funding initially granted to Provincetown will remain in the region and will continue to bolster the regional economy,” says Provincetown Town Manager David Panagore.
“With our thanks to the Town of Provincetown, we are excited to be able to work with the Federal Aviation Administration on these projects, to improve safety, and save the airport money,” says Barnstable Municipal Airport Manager Bud Breault.
The reconstruction of the 15-33 runway as well as the application of the sealant on the main terminal aircraft parking ramp will take place starting in March 2017. The timing was chosen to both be conducive to construction but also to mitigate any potential traffic issues on the airport because of the strong influx of summer visitors frequenting the Airport.
