The Town of Barnstable is accepting applications for artists and artisans interested in participating in the 2017 Hyannis HyArts Artist Shanty program. The shanties are located in the Hyannis HyArts Cultural District, at Bismore Park/Ocean Street, Hyannis. Applications should be submitted by the fourth Friday in October of each year for the following season: for 2017, first round applications are due Friday, October 28, 2016. Artists will be juried and first selections made by December 31st based on applications received. Subsequent applications will continue to be accepted on a rolling basis following this date for any remaining spots for the 2017 season and will be filled based on need and availability.
Applications can be downloaded from the home page at www.HyArtsDistrict.com.
The Hyannis HyArts Artist Shanty Program began in 2005, as the first in a series of arts related strategies designed to provide opportunities and exposure for local artists; enliven the economic climate in downtown Hyannis; and to establish an important vibrant backdrop for year round residents and visitors. The response to the Harbor your Arts (HyA) Shanty Program has been overwhelmingly positive.
The shanties are open weekends May through mid-June and then seven days a week through Columbus Day. Work is handmade or hand crafted, and all artists are from Cape Cod. A variety of work is represented including jewelry, paintings, photography, visual art, woodcarving, fiber arts, ceramics, rope work, glass work, literary art, mixed media, and more.
During the season a variety of musical entertainment is offered and street performers are encouraged to participate. For information contact Melissa Hersh at 508-862-4767 or email at email@example.com
