Cape Cod has a vibrant performance arts community, but has an unfulfilled need for a regional state-of-the-art facility to showcase quality arts, entertainment and educational offerings, and to nurture the artistic spirit of Cape Cod residents and visitors year-round.
Oceanside Performing Arts Center, a nonprofit organization made up of Cape Cod civic leaders with a commitment to the arts, has for several years sought a location to build such a center.
Oceanside’s board has identified an ideal space for Oceanside Performing Arts Center in Hyannis, and have signed a purchase and sale agreement with the current owners, the Finch Group Hotel and Resort, Inc. In addition, we have secured a commitment from the Cape Symphony to make Oceanside their permanent home.
Though we are enormously excited about this step, it is a very preliminary one and we must conduct further due diligence prior to finalizing a sale. The site, which is currently the Twin Brooks Golf course, offers many benefits, including:
- Proximity to downtown Hyannis, supporting businesses on Main Street
- A central location that will draw both residents and visitors to the Cape for year-round performances
- An opportunity to strengthen the efforts of the Town of Barnstable to attract visitors and residents to the Hyannis Arts (HyArts) District and expand the Cape’s growing variety of community and arts activities
- Improved use of a parcel of land that currently has limited additional value to the community
We pledge to fully engage the community as we move from conceptual vision to concrete plans. In the months ahead, we plan to meet with local businesses, residents, town officials and others to listen to their thoughts about a performing arts center; we expect to incorporate this feedback into any plans we develop should we receive the appropriate approvals to move forward.
We look forward to earning the support of the local community for this important and valuable project. For regular updates on this project, please visit oceansidepac.org.
