For many travelers, especially those who do not drive, are uncomfortable traveling solo or in pairs to unfamiliar places or who are elderly and prefer to leave the driving and planning to others, a group tour is ideal. Many group tour companies transport their tour participants in larger motor coaches, which are quite comfortable, climate-controlled, feature television, movies, rest rooms and even Wi-Fi! Drivers are bonded, well trained and specially licensed and these tour operators are quite familiar with the destinations they serve. Many of these tours are narrated to provide at least the basic information about the destination being visited.
The coach drops off its load of passengers at a central desirable location which offers sightseeing, ready access to local attractions, shopping and many dining options. Most motor coach tours provide neck identification so that, in the event of a mishap such as someone getting delayed or lost or illness, the tour operators can be contacted in order to ensure no one is left behind. Smaller group tour companies feature minivans and mini coaches instead of the larger buses major operators or those catering to larger groups utilize. These smaller vehicles often provide opportunities for photo stops and special requests, depending upon the group size and its schedule.
Destinations warmly welcome group tours. Group tours provide a ready audience for local lodging establishments, sights and attractions, shops and restaurants. Also, the increased visibility for the destination among group tour participants’ families and friends provides excellent public relations and promotional value for future travelers who are encouraged to visit. It is just good business to give these new friends and visitors a very warm welcome. Quite often, tour group members have such a memorable time, that they return again and again to take in sights and attractions missed in the allotted time, to try yet another highly acclaimed restaurant or to indulge and buy that beautiful souvenir, Cape Cod bracelet or another five-pound box of salt water taffy they were undecided about on the last visit.
