The second Hyannis Open Streets event of the year will feature opportunities to dance up and down a car-free Main Street May 21 from noon to 5 p.m.
Cape Cod’s famed big band The Moonlighters will perform from 2 to 3:30 p.m., and members of Ballroom Bliss will be on the street to show you the steps. Elsewhere on Main between Barnstable Road and Sea Street, the Country Soul store (marking its first anniversary) will offer country line dancing from 1 to 3 p.m. Once again, you can dance to the beat of Cape Cod African Drum and Dance. Hyannis native Allen McGarry is among the musical entertainers who’ll be found along the street.
As always, this free event is about opening up Main Street for people of all ages and abilities to get some fresh air, participate in healthy activities, and enjoy discovering what our local business owners have to offer . The popular Kids Zone will be back on the village green, and the antique fire truck will once again host many photo opportunities. Children are welcome to select a free book outside the library.
The town’s recreation department will host activities near High School Road, and non-profit organizations will offer tips about healthy lifestyles. The entire list of fun can be found at www.hyannisopenstreets.com.
Hyannis Open Streets, which will also be held Sept. 17 and Oct. 22 this year, is presented by the Greater Hyannis Civic Association with the cooperation of the Greater Hyannis Chamber of Commerce and the Hyannis Main Street Business Improvement District as well as business and individual sponsors. Please go to our website to learn how you can donate or participate as a performer or volunteer.
See you on the street – and don’t forget your dancing shoes!
