The Glenna Kohl Fund for Hope is hosting a new type of fundraising event on September 23, 2017. The 1st Annual Piggy Roast is a family friendly event that will be held at Flax Pond recreational facility in Yarmouth, Mass.
“Glenna would have been 34 this year. We wanted to create an event that would appeal to Glenna’s childhood and college friends who are now married and having children. The goal of the event is to not only raise money for awareness initiatives and melanoma research, it’s to bring the community together and celebrate Glenna’s legacy.” – Rachael Burbank, event co-chair
The Piggy Roast will feature lawn games, a gourmet pig roast barbeque, fundraising auction and raffle all while enjoying live music from local musicians. We welcome Dr. Donald Lawrence, clinical director of the Center for Melanoma at Massachusetts General Hospital, as our guest speaker to highlight recent progress in the treatment of melanoma with immunotherapy drugs. Tickets will be reasonably priced for adults and children and will be available to purchase on our website www.glennasfund.org.
“I’m overwhelmed by the amount of people who have reached out to Bob and me about how Glenna’s story saved their life. We are committed to continuing our daughter’s work to bring awareness to the dangers of skin cancer and this event will further our reach and save more lives from this deadly disease.” – Colleen Kohl, Glenna’s mother and executive director of GKFH
The Glenna Kohl Fund for Hope is a 501©3 nonprofit founded in 2009 with the mission to carry on Glenna’s work to bring awareness to everyone about the dangers of melanoma and the importance of early detection and prevention. To date, more than $150,000 has been donated to a melanoma research fund at Massachusetts General Hospital, constructed 30 lifeguard shade canopies, distributed 50 sunscreen dispensers to public spaces and built the first large community shade structure in 2015. In addition, Glenna’s Fund provides support to families who are currently undergoing treatment for melanoma.
