The Town of Barnstable is pleased to announce artist Mellissa Morris as the new Studio 46 Artist-in-Resident at 46 Pearl Street, Hyannis, on the Hyannis HyArts Campus. Morris intends to offer meditation and yoga classes, monthly drawing and painting workshops.
The Hyannis HyArts Campus Artist-in-Residence program is an opportunity for members of the creative economy to rent a professional working artist studio space and gallery. Studio 46 Pearl is situated on a small arts campus setting, which includes a gallery (Gallery Artrio), pottery studio (Bass River Pottery) and the Guyer Barn, a community art space.
The Town of Barnstable encourages and supports local artists with a variety of opportunities to advance in their work and interact with the public. The artist in residence program is one of many arts oriented town programs in the Hyannis HyArts Cultural District contributing to a lively cultural destination where working artists engage residents and visitors alike in cultural activities.
Mellissa Morris is an expressive abstract artist working with painting, collage, drawing and printmaking techniques. Inspired by imagery from the natural world, Morris uses these images often as metaphors in her work, becoming archetypes for deeper and more meaningful expressions of her personal experiences and the means in which she explores the depths of her spirit.
Born and raised in Hyannis, Morris is the eldest daughter of seven children. Graduate of the University of Massachusetts with a Masters in Fine Arts painting, Mellissa teaches at the Cape Cod Art Association and Cape Cod Child Development offering creative art yoga classes and activities. Mellissa is a musician as well, playing the ukulele and guitar. Mellissa also serves as an Adjunct Professor at Bunker Hill and Cape Cod Community College and is the co-owner of The Little Sandwich Shop on Main Street Hyannis.
